Hi Marilyn,
Here's a few questions for you. Do you remember a guy named Leonard Reed? I think he worked at The Apollo in New York, but was in and out of Detroit during the early 1960s, producing. He may have had a son - named Paul, who was a good dancer. And maybe the singer Benita Reed was also related to him.
Also; Did you have any contact with Mr Wingate?
Many thanks,
Graham

Where have I seen Leonard Reed's name? Is it on those early Ric Tic = Golden World releases..
By acooolcat (211.78.28.80 - 211.78.28.80) on Monday, April 01, 2002 - 01:29 pm: |
That's right John. The origin of those early Golden World/Ric-Tic 45s is still a mystery - to me anyway.
Mariyn, did you ever meet a singer called Sue Perrin?
Best wishes, Graham

Leonard Reed sounds familiar to me. Yes, I did meet Sue Perrin. I can ask Gino if he has any contact with Ed Wingate. I think he does. Do you need to get in touch with him?
Right now,we're trying to rescue Nathaniel Mayer from himself. If you know what I mean.
What happened to the Teen Clubs topic? Again I ask, does anyone know wher Danny Zella is? I really DO know someone who owes him some money.

Marilyn,
The last I heard was that Danny moved to Florida and hasn't been heard from since. The only person that I know who might know of his where abouts is Dick Jordon (Dick Barkholz) his old guitar player. We used to play in a band together and he knows Danny quite well, unfortunately I haven't been successful in finding him. Marilyn, I'm sure you have seen the postings about September 6th and I hope you will bring yourself and have fun with everybody that will be there. You are very important to all of us and we will all enjoy meeting you.

Hi Marilyn
I'd love to interview Ed Wingate but don't think he wants to talk about his musical past - that's what he told me when I spoke to him a few years ago.
Do you know where Sue might be living now?
And Stewart Ames?
Did George Braxton have anything to do with publishing Teen Life magazine?
Best wishes, Graham
By Marilyn (65.148.86.109 - 65.148.86.109) on Wednesday, April 03, 2002 - 05:08 pm: |
I'll see if Gino has a number on Ed. George had nothing to do with Teen Life newspaper. He started the label, because we wanted to record some of the local talent that was popular.
Someone said Danny was in Fla.,but someone also saw him in the Flint area. If he gets hold of me,his records have been re-issued,& they're definitely selling,so he WILL get paid. I hate to see evryone get rich, but the artists. They said if I find him, they will pat him though.

Oh,George-
Yes,I'll probably come out Sept. 6th. I was planning on having a barbecue out my way for everyone this summer. My daughter lives right across the street from a lake, plus she has a pool. My son-in-law is a great cook on the barbie. We live about a block from each other. How about it? Jack Scott,Gino, both with wives,& whoever else wants to come.

So now guys, how about a history of Mickey Dention.....my input is limited to him recording at Hitsville USA under the direction of Tom Baird (the Rare Earth 45 also indicated R Dean Taylor was involved).

Mickey did record for Impact. I think recently Harry Balk was involved in some sessions with Mickey's son. Harry always believed in Mickey's potential and I'm sure it would have been Harry who brought him to Motown's Rare Earth label.

Hi folks. I did some recording with Mickey Denton for Impact and Harry Balk. Mickey sang well and did a good job on stage. I also played guitar in his band at the Falcon Showbar. One night, I wrote out horn and string arrangements and we brought in horns and strings to play live. It was pretty wild! I worked a lot with Mickey and John Brooks in clubs around town. I think that was the last top 40 band I worked with before I decided to spend all of my time in the record business.

John Brooks produced the Human Beings stuff on Impact. Mickey Denton also sang a duet with Patti Jerome (Patti & Mickey) on the label! Who were the Tartans? There was a pressing (I think) floating about on the scene of the Tartan Sisters singing 'You Took A Shot At My Heart' with a \b-side of 'Nothing But Love'. The record had the same label no. (1031) as Rod Riguez. I think it was a vocal to 'Nothing But Love' but I'm probably wrong as my memory is .... er?

Mickey's son,Joey looks just like his dad. Patti married Harry,& unfortunately died just recently.Mickey has retired from singing professionally, but is still singing in church. He said he'd send a jet for me if I wanted to see him. (He's almost 100 miles from my house.) I should be doing some work with Joey again as soon as I can get him in gear. He's not only a great singer, but an AWESOME songwriter!
