Tortoise International of Southfield, Michigan owned by Don Davis 1977-1978.

TortoiseInt

All songs were Great Lakes Productions and Groovesville Music Publishing (except where marked) and produced by Don Davis (except where marked). House arranger was Rudy Robinson
There is a discography of The Skyliners on Skyliners with a good scan of the 12 inch single.

Like all our Forum members, I scour the net from time to time and found there is a Tortoise International Organisation!

Short lived, but very interesting. Note the producer on 'Smile On Me'. Perhaps David should be renamed 'Don' David.

I believe the Rockets (featuring former members of the Detroit Wheels) had an LP on this label, entitled "Love Transfusion". Not sure if they had a single release though.

Best,

Mark

I did a search at the International Music Discographies site. The only record they had listed for Tortoise International was this 45:

The Rockets
"She's a Pretty One"/"I've Got to Move"
Tortoise International TB1-1207

Best,

Mark

Side A:Fast Thing in "D"etroit; Fell Out of Love; My HEart Needs You; Lookin for Love; I Got To
Move
Side B: Ramona; Fly Little Bird; Love Transfusion; She's A Pretty One
All Songs are either by Johnny B or Jim McCarty
It was recorded at United Produced by Don Davis and mastered in Memphis. The front cover is by Kelly and Mouse of San Francisco- Brandye provides bkgrnd vocals
I used to gig occasionally with Rockets Bassist John Fraga in the '80's backing vocalist Darien James. I wonder what happened to John- I know he backed Detroit vocal groups all through the sixties; very likely some mentioned on this site.
