Does anyone have information about Billy Ferrell, who recorded one single--I've Got to Find Love b/w Baby That's the Way I Want You--on Lacrystal in 1965? It's certainly a good soul record, but I don't know anything about the artist. Other names on the label include E.A. Hawkins, Producer (I know I've got other stuff with his name on it, but can't remember what)and Johnny Allen, Arranger.

e.a. hawkins wrote songs recorded by darrell banks and also the durettes. he/she worked with r.veesey.

never heard of billy ferrell.

this sounds like yet another detroit label joe?

David and John, thanks for the info. Lacrystal is probably just a one-off label (the catalog number is 1001), the address is on Fullerton in Detroit, which is in the Dexter-Davison area. It's a ZTSC pressing (107316)on the green paper that was frequently used by that plant--i.e., the exact same paper used for Hideout and Brute records, among others. Guitar-bass-drums on this record, plus two or three girl bg vocalists.
