JOE HUNTER...........FROM THE STORIES THAT I HEARD I GUESS IF BARRY GORDY DID NOT KNOW JOE HUNTER ONLY GOD KNOWS IF MOTOWN WOULD HAVE BEEN THE SAME...JOE WAS THE FIRST MUSICIAN THAT BARRY CONTACTED WHEN HE STARTED MOTOWN......WITH HIS RECOMMENDATION OF BENNY AND JAMES THEY BECAME THE HEART OF THE FUNK BROTHERS THAT INTRODUCED THE SOUND OF MOTOWN TO THE WORLD!!!!!!!!
AS FAR AS MYSELF JOE WAS VERY INFLUENTIAL IN INTRODUCING ME TO THE MUSICIANS, PRODUCERS, AND ARRANGERS THAT WERE A MAJOR PART OF THE MUSIC COMING OUT OF DETROIT, AND JOE BEING ALL OF THE ABOVE FREQUENTLY USED ME ON HIS SESSIONS...........WHEN JACK ASHFORD HAD HIS PRODUCTION COMPANY JOE WAS ONE OF THE MAIN ARRANGERS AS WELL AS PLAYING KEYBOARDS......
THE FUNK BROTHER FILM WILL ANSWER A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT JOE.........

AS FAR AS THE SONG "THEY SAY I'M AFRAID OF LOSING YOU" BY FREDDY BUTLER, I DON'T REMEMBER BEING INVOLVED IN THE WRITING, BUT JACK WAS RECORDING A LOT OF PRODUCT AND I SEEM TO RECALL SOME PRE-PRODUCTION REHEARSALS WERE HE GAVE THE MUSICIANS A OPPORTUNITY TO BE INVOLVED IN WRITING OF SOME OF THE TUNES..........BOB BABBITT

Joe Hunteris the GREATEST. Back in 1964 we performed at Bakers KeyBoard Lounge on livernoise ave, and Joe Hunter was our piano player . He was APSOLUTLY THE BEST of the Best.... Talk about piano playing. It was like having an "orchastra"
behind us rather then a 4 piece band. What is Joe doing now? If anyone talks to him give him our
best!

Joe Hunter is a dear friend and we play together fairly often. Joe has a book called "Musicians, Motown and Myself." From what I can tell, he was an original Funk Brother and he has a very clear memories from those times. He is not a bullshitter. Hell of a player. That was him playing "After Hours" on the Coachmans theme on WDET. I saw the rough version of the Funk Brothers movie....its gonna be great!

Joe was at Motown from the very begining.
Not only is he a tremendous player, but also a first class guy.
He was instrumental in helping Mike Hanks get started in the music biz.
Joe's arrangements are an integral part of the Detroit sound.
Graham
