Blue Lovett was in the Manhattans. He was the bass singer. The story goes , as he told me himself, the the guys used to tell him "hey man , you so black, you blue!!" That is the true story!! The Del Viking's "Crip" Johnson was named that because of a limp that he had as in crippled.
Wilson Pickett was "The Midnight Mover" and Jackie Wilson, was Mr Excitement.

Guilty as hell, David! I no doubt read the same article. Perhaps I could change my name? Elvis Wonder, Edwin Mancha. Could be the start of a new topic - 'what would be your preferred professional name?'.

David

Good point. I'm wondering if there's any truth in the story I heard about that album...?

Was it, as the story goes, originally planned as an album with Stevie and Wes Montgomery... but the latter's death knocked the idea on the head? Hence the harmonica instrumentals and the cunningly-disguised artist credit.

Is this a legend, a little-known "fact" or just a myth?

of course theres another can of worms to open here
how mant famous artistes/composers didnt get the credit for their songs after they were bought of them by record company bosses or alternatvly they were put out with false credits to avoid being
sued by the record company they were signed to

I had a group of young students start my English class here in Taiwan today. As they didn't have "English" names I had to give them one.
One Boy is called Deto, another Sidra an one is Gino - after Gino Washington.
