I have tried that booking agent too, with no response. The one with the big JR b/white photo on! I have emailed Edwin Starr and have asked if he knows the whereabouts of Mr Ruffin. They both live in the UK.

Hi guys and gals, How y'all doin'????
First my Spotted Dick is just fine. No complaints!!
The Jimmy Ruffin session that I produced for Epic, was done in 1977. The titles were; Leading Lady, Looking Back, and I finally found out. The first two were my songs and the last one was by Dean and Weatherdspoon. The sessions were never released due to a change in the heirarchy at Epic.
Corporate crap at its best!!!
I am researching the possibility of remixing some of my unreleased masters for future release.

Let's hope we can look forward to it sometime. There's so much more to our Jimmy than "What Becomes Of.." and its various clones - the song that defines Jimmy for many folks who don't know better.

Per Brian Day's post:

I really hope to find him so I can have accurate and truthful input about David in this book, so much about David is rumors and I want his families
input, just as I have Marvin's family representing him, I'd like David's brother to give us some truthful insight from his own perpectives.

I bet you've never tried a Holland's meat-and-potato pie butty though. (I think you call them sarnwiches down there). Ditto fish butties. Jimmy Ruffin's 'World So Wide, Nowhere To Hide' - fantastic. I bet he never ate them either.

In 'World So Wide', there is a bit where the backing vocals leap out midway and almost steal the show! 'Tell me what you want' was on Polydor. It was around 1974 I think. I have a copy and great memories from when it was first released here. I am sure it was a UK recording too.

Ian OMG!

Holland's Pies... Sometimes I think leaving Lancashire was not a good idea. Ask for meat & potato pie outside of the NW and you might as well be asking for cows' eggs :o(

I used to love Holland's steak puddings too, with chips, mushy peas and gravy, washed down with Ben Shaws.

Aye, that's "Soul Food" - Lancasheer style!

I think we need a food site too! I believe they do deep-fried battered Mars bars in David's neck of the woods!

I do hope Mr Ruffin drops into the forum. I am sure he would have some great stories to tell us. 'Tell me what you want' and yours Bobby, Got to get you back', were played almost together at the clubs in Hull as the 'newbies' of the day! And here we are discussing them.

Looking through this thread, and discussing Londoners, Northerners etc (incidentally John L is an Essex Boy, and a jolly well brought up one too!) It reminded me of a time I saw Jimmy R. In the 60's I had seen Jimmy at the Twisted Wheel Club, a Soul club, where we thought were all very hip and serious. But 25 years later I saw him in London at The National Club, in Kilburn (an Irish part of town) and the MC was called Tony Blackburn. In the early 60's Tony was a Motown & Soul pioneer DJ. and still remains a soul fan but he is also a bit of a parody of an aging DJ. Anyway, as I said, the last time I saw Jimmy, Soul officianados were getting LPs autographed, asking him about who farted in the middle of his Miracle recording, where could we get some glasses to look like brother David etc. But 25 years later this audience were TOTALLY different. They were middle aged swingers, tubby 50 yr old women in tiny leopard print mini skirts etc. When Jimmy jumped on to the stage, he was greeted by one of these gals throwing their panties at him!!!! Gulp! I hope that Freddie Gorman doesn't get the same welcome when he comes over to Manchester in June !!! Keith

I saw him perform in Milton Keynes of all places and the crowd there that night was a mixed age group. However, you could tell by the bottom jaw of certain people how they were in awe of the mans performance of his classic hits and repertoire and quite easily guess they were toddlers or not even around when these records were in the charts. Those singing the words were the 'mature' fans and those with their gobs wide open were the new students of the Motown sound and could not believe their eyes or ears. Mr Ruffin was tight with his band. I always check the backbeats and Motown signatures out for authenticity, but the man, would be keeping a tight reign on the musicians to ensure they were spot on and in the pocket. It was mid week and the place was packed. He is a true professional and a treat to see. Tony Blackburn, as far as I know, used to play the Motown stuff on the pirate radio ships, that blitzed the southern part of the UK in the 1960's. We must thank him and Dusty Springfield for helping Motown make their mark in the UK.

The only time Jimmy was in Philly was when I produced him on the unreleased Epic sides.
Tellme... I think was done in NYC, and not with MFSB.

Where's Jimmy Ruffin? He's got some hits tucked away that I produced on him and they need to be on the street. Polydor Records must have been making too much money at the time and put the 4 tunes Jimmy and I did together in the Vault. Well
Harry W if you can find the following titles on Jimmy Ruffin under Polydor you may want to take a listen to: Ain't That Cold" The Entertainer" Give You All Th e Love I've Got" If anyone speaks to Jimmy R tell him to contact me. Peace!!
