Does anyone have any record label slogans such as
the Miracle label's slogan was "If it's a hit,it's a miracle" Gordy's was "It's what's in the grooves that count" There was a Philly label called Pearl Harbor and the slogan was "Our bombs are direct hits" Philly International was
"The message is in the music" Mighty Three Music had three elephants and a slogan that read "You'll never forget our tunes"
If anyonee has anymore let 'em rip!!

Hey Bobby...how about " hidden " slogans.
When I was forming the Tera Shirma record label I decided I wanted a secondary label. One day the producer Carl Cisco, Fred Saxon, and Milan Bogdan were with me in my office as were trying to decide what to name this label.Carl said it should be MFH records. It would stand for Mother Fuc..ing Hit. He said the promotion guys could go to the program directors and say..." Here is a Mother Fuc..ing Hit! I looked at Carl like he was a little crazy and asked him what I would say MFH stood for to the more conservative public. Without skipping a beat, he pointed to Milan...M...Fred....F
and then after a very brief pause...me..and said.." Him " ..H So the MFH label was thus named.

Ralph -

Not Soul-related, but your story reminds me of Dick James' label, "THIS RECORD COMPANY" aka DJM (Dick James Music).

His reasoning was that records were either hits (H I T S) or another less-respectable anagram of the same letters!

I was gonna do a label once to release some unreleased stuff, and I was gonna call it
"Gonnif" records. That is a Yiddish name for thief. The slogan was gonna be "Your loss is our gain" and the label name was gonna be in Hebrew looking script and have a carricature of a little man running with a suitcase with money falling out!!! I still may do it.

I think there must have been a lot of copying and spying going on in the early days as nearly all of my 45s have the same slogan - `UNBREAKABLE`.
Also I will never forget an ad on the back of a copy of Bim Bam Boom, it was from Art Mariano or someone for STEED Records, (the label has a picture of a horse rearing up) and he'd drawn a load of sh*t coming out of the horse into the dead wax and inked in a slogan `STEED..The rest of sh*t is in the grooves`.
Keith.

joe
anyone can upload an image. here's how you do it.

-ensure you know where your image is on your computer as you will be prompted for that information during the process.
-ensure that your image is less than 50k in size. it will refuse to upload if it's not.
-the first keystroke-i will spell (or the system will think i am trying to upload). here we go:-
backslash{name of your file}
that's all you need. '\' is the backslash key.
ensure you use the correct brackets.
-when you click on 'post message' you will see a colourful 'your image here'.
-click 'post' again and the 'browse' feature will appear.
-click 'browse' and find your file.
-click 'upload' once the name appears in the 'browse' box.

you will also find this info in 'get fancy' on the left of your screen.

let me know if you get stuck!

David, it's a very high-quality funk record. Don't know if you can see the ZTSC # on the scan, but it's 12588, which I think makes the record 1968. The b-side is an instro of the a-side with a sax lead thrown in.

My favorite label design is PHIL-L.A. OF SOUL -- with a funky fishbone for the "fillet"!

I'm going to do a Phil-L.A. of Soul feature (with scans) on my web site in a few days.

My favorite Fantastic Johnny C track was on Kama Sutra -- "Peace Treaty" -- another wonderful Mike Terry track!

Although the label had PHIL. and L.A. in its name, four of the first seven releases on Phil-L.A. Of Soul were masters picked up from Deep City Records in Miami! They later picked up masters from some really tiny Miami labels, such as Saadia, Kangi and Shadow.

Demon Records, from the '50s, they had Jody Reynolds ("Endless Sleep", etc.) and The Olympics; that label's slogan was "The Highest in Fi". A friend of mine had a label in the '80s called Borrowed Records. Their slogan on one release was "Everybody's Got One"; on another it was "Fewest Returns in the Industry".
