I have been asked by Andy Rix to post the following message.......

I am deeply saddened to inform you all off the death of Barbara Randolph on
July 15th. In an effort to re-establish contact with her for the Tammi
Terrell project I sent a mail, via a friend, to Eddie Singleton in South
Africa and this news has just been relayed to me.
I have no idea of the circumstances and am feeling quite shocked right now.
She was such a 'young' woman and I really can't begin to imagne what
happened. I will talk to Eddie at some point & let you all know.
This is just another tragic reminder of how fragile life is. My memories of
meeting and knowing her are happy ones & that is how I will keep her in my
heart

Andrew

Thanks for posting this tragic news John.

I'll always remember the first time I heard a Barbara Randolph 45.

It was on the Northern Soul Scene of course and the record was "I Got A Feeling".

Issued here on the Tamla Motown label it was my first experience of lesser known Motown records.

As a sound it always lit up the Twisted Wheel Club.

Barbara can rest in the knowledge that she helped to provide the backdrop to many memorable evenings for thousands of ordinary people.

It is sad news indeed, especially in the light of recent discussions of her unreleased masters in the Motown archives. Her "I Got A Feeling" will ensure her immortality among Motown lovers.

I was listening to this last night - on repeat - and it occurred to me, this record deserves an honourable mention in the "Ultimate Motown song" list. To borrow a few words from the lyrics:

Earthquaking
Soul-shaking
Everloving
Breathtaking
Electrifying
Soul-satisfying

Those adjectives could be applied equally to the classic Motown sound we love so much, and to Ms. Randolph's small but gratefully-accepted contribution.

This is sad news indeed. I remember also hearing 'I got a feeling' for the first time. I have the us single, bought around 1974.

Her song is probably the only time the Four Tops were topped. What a singer! What a song! What a loss!
