You can hear "the Detroit sound" right now, at its old frequency, 1310 on your AM dial -- WKNR is back on the air! Today the music, jingles and commercials, tomorrow the jocks. They're playing lots of the Detroit stuff a lot of us grew up on, too. Tomorrow a lot of the Motown interviews will be aired ...
They stream the station, which is usually sports talk WXDX I believe, so Google it and you'll get there.

Pat St. John is on tomorrow at 10 AM-12 noon. His opening song will be "Ain't No Place Like Motown."

Careful in your searches, there is a modern rock FM station in Pittsburgh with the same call letters. Don't go there if you want to hear Keener 13. The station you want is AM - this is the link for the streaming:

It does not work for Macs!

Harry,
You're just going to have to fly in for the day!
A friend, Art Vuolo, has MP3s of what's going to be played tomorrow and he says it's great, especially coming out of a non-AM speaker...
Right now they're running the familiar voice of Keener's Bob Green doing new promos for tomorrow's programming.

p.s.
Here's an update/explanation of what you'll hear, on the Keener 13 page:

John,
Did you get to hear much? It's still on ...The Detroitcentric stuff is great -- Underdogs' "Love's Gone Bad," The Parliaments' "I Wanna Testify," " Edwin Starr's "Scott's On Swingers" -- did the same guys play on that track as on Edwin's original S.O.S. I wonder? Also Seger's "Persecution Smith" and the Rationals' "Respect" ...

Pat grew up in the Motor City... and his Mom, long before Hitsville, lived on West Grand Boulevard, a few doors down from 2648...

Hey Sue. I played on SOS but don't remember Scotts on Swingers. If it was promotional and Golden World was involved, they could have used the same bandtrack and overdubbed different words.

I'm sure the Scott Regan version is the same rhythm track - just a different vocal overdub.

Dennis -- that was my guess too! It sounded identical to the original -- great to hear anyway. See you ...
Harry,
You can tell Pat St. J's a native, the insider stuff he was conveying on Keener was great -- like introing Bob Seger's "Heavy Music" with the detail that he was playing the same Cameo Parkway single, complete with a little noise, that he played at WKNR.

My earlier message didn't come through..so I shal repeat it..
I managed to get shotgun and listenend until I fell asleep about 5 minutes before the end. When it it on again?
There were lots of gaps which I assumed were adverts
I was over the moon to hear it...and it was great to hear Joe Cocker which I hadn't heard for about 30 years......Bob Seeger is a name I had heard of but I dont know his music. I was hoping Del Shannon got some plays because of his Detroit conneection...Keep Searchin' was one of my first non Detroit purchases but after discovering Dennis and Bob are on it, it counts as a Detroit record in my book!!
I am so pleased that the Velvelettes were included, even if I did miss it

John,
That's weird, I heard all the ads when I accessed the streaming online, it's funny that they'd only be excised for those abroad.
I think they'll be making CDs of the shows available soon. They did a lot of Motown, a lot of non-Motown Detroit stuff that we grew up with here, etc. Check out www.keener13.com for a report on how it did, listener reaction etc.
They plan to do it again next year, if not sooner.
