Does anyone know of a recording by Shirley Taylor?
Does this name mean anything to anyone here?

Yes Mel, I also know that 45.
I found a few photos last year when I was in Detroit; they were in an envelope marked "Shirley Taylor" - so guess that's her name. There were also a few of Johnnie Mae Matthews - all color shots from around 1966 - they are performing in a clab with Earl Van Dyke and his guys.
Perhaps Shirley never recorded anything.

Graham,
I've drawn a blank on Shirley Taylor.
You're probably right about her not recording
- considering just how many Detroit singers did actually get a record released there must be
dozens ( hundreds ?) more who never got that
break.

Davie - when I found the pictures there were a couple of negatives too - I just had them developed and there's a photo of a woman with a stack of 45s in front of a sign saying "Happy Birthday Shirley"- and it's a different woman to the one singing in a club. The plot thickens! Once my scanner is back in action I'll post an image.

Graham,
Great - hope your scanner's back to rude health soon.
